What an amazing experience to cruise down the Xe Bangfai river? Kayaking over clear water, between limestone mountains and remote villages accessible only by boat. Meeting local fishermen and kids swimming into the river while listening bird songs.


Itinerary :

Xiangkhouang is a province of Laos, located in the Xiangkhouang Plateau, north-east of the country. Originally known as Muang Phouan, the present capital of the province is Phonsavan. The population of the province as of March 2005 census is 229,521. Xiangkhouang Province covers an area of 15,880 square kilometers and has largely a mountainous topography. The province borders Luang Prabang Province to the northwest, Houaphan Province to the northeast, Vietnam to the east, Bolikhamsai Province to the southeast, and Vientiane Province to the southwest. Apart from floodplains, the largest area of level land in the country is located in the province’s Xiangkhouang Plateau

Laos Kayaking Tours in Xieng Khouang

Departure at 08:30 from your hotel towards Ban Nakhai where we will arrive around 90 minutes later. After some instructions on how to lead your kayak and about safety issues, it will be time to jump into your kayak to start our down river.

XIENG KHOUANG KAYAKING TOUR

Progressively, you will warm up and leave the village on our right to enter into some magnificent natural areas. We will paddle down the river sliding between the vegetation, sandbanks. After a short distance within luxurious vegetation, you will take your rhythm on the river amazed by the surroundings before enjoying a picnic lunch along the river or on an island (depending on the level of water) and taking time to swim and relax.
In the afternoon, we will pursue our itinerary through one of the most beautiful landscape you can meet: the river slides between limestone reliefs on a couple of kilometers. The Xe Bangfai will offer you a unique circuit in the heart of the karstic region. You will be surrounded by forests and huge cliffs and peaks such as Pha Nongkagnoy and Pha Pakgnom. On your way, you will probably meet local fishermen and observe them on duties or just enjoy the smiles of kids swimming into the flow of the river.
The kayaking trip ends at Ban Dang, a nice village settled on the bank of the river where our truck will be waiting for us. 30 minutes on a bumpy trail will lead you to the main road to get back to Thakhek.
Approximately: 1 ½ hour transfer/ 5 hours kayaking.

Note: 
The trip is doable in the dry season from October to May.

What to bring:
Hat, sun-screen, clothes to get wet, firm but light shoes to get wet, mosquito repellent, camera.
