This is a perfect one day adventure. Enjoy and experience one of the most beautiful and exciting rapids, to see Irrawaddy Dolphins fowling with Laos-Cambodia border to Veun Kham…

Itinerary :

Don Det used to be a really off the beaten track place only five to ten years ago. While even still today you won’t find the same crowds here as in, for example, Vang Vieng, tens of guest houses can now be around in once well-kept secret. The installation of electricity supply is now complete, and so Don Det has 24-hour electrical service. This will most likely lead to increasingly more services and development. Don Det is somewhat of a mecca for backpackers and is often compared with the much less relaxing Vang Vieng. Backpackers, mostly in their 20s and 30s, come to this island to relax. Some stay a day or two, some for weeks and a few have decided to stay for good.

Departure from Our office on Don Det at 8:30 a.m. We take a short walk to the tip of the island, where we start our paddling trip. The guide will give you first some basic paddle instructions. After that, we paddle to the western side of Don Det and then, by passing some small Islands, to Khone Loup. This takes us about 40 minutes and, after mastering some minor ones, you will enjoy some exciting grade 2-3 rapids. There are beautiful and clean swimming spots as well and we stop for Lao picnic lunch here. Not so many people come along this way, just only the local fishermen.

After lunch, we continue paddling downstream for about an hour to the area where the last Irrawaddy Dolphins live, directly at Lao–Cambodian border. After spending some time relaxing and taking photos, we paddle for another 40 minutes to Veun Kham. Here a car is waiting for us to take us to the amazing and impressive Khone Phapheng Waterfall. Then we drive to Ban Nakasang and take a boat back to Don Det.
