This trip to the northwest highlands of Mai Chau offers a balance of culture and adventure, set amongst some of northern Vietnam‘s most stunning scenery. We spend 3 nights in ethnic minority villages, and trek for four days through villages in the Mai Chau area and overnight in Thai and Hmong villages where we have the opportunity to observe the lives of the minority peoples. From the mountainous region of Mai Chau, we travel back to the capital, Hanoi.

Day 1: Mai Chau Homestay Trekking Tour to Xam Khoe, Xa Linh Villages: HANOI – HOA BINH – MAICHAU HOMESTAY TOURS (-/-/D) 

Our guide and driver pick you up for a scenic transfer out of the bustle Hanoi. After about one and a half hour drive, we’ll arrive in Hoa Binh City, the semi-mountainous area. Embark a boat to leisurely cruise along the Hoa Binh Lake for 2 hours toward Mai Chau. On the way, we’ll stop to visit the Muong and Dzao ethnic people who live by the lake side.

Arriving in Mai Chau pier, our driver will greet you again for another part of transfer to Mai Chau valley which is surrounded by the mountains & forests and rice fields. This is a home where the Thai people have settled for centuries. The welcome lunch is hosted by a Thai family in Pom Coong village followed by a walk around to discover the local lifestyle. The rest of the day is for your own exploration.

Day 2: Mai Chau Homestay Trekking Tour to Xam Khoe, Xa Linh Villages: MAI CHAU TREKKING TOURS TO XAM KHOE – MAI CHAU ADVENTURE TOURS (B/L/D)

After breakfast, transfer by car to the valley center. We start to trek along the mountain side to Xam Khoe Village, another settlement of Thai People. The trekking is difficult at times with some steep uphill and downhill walking, but the views are incredible.  however some physical preparation will enable you to fully appreciate today’s trek. Picnic lunch in a family.

Arrive back to Pom Coong Village in the afternoon.

MAI CHAU TREKKING TOURS TO XAM KHOE

Day 3: Mai Chau Homestay Trekking Tour to Xam Khoe, Xa Linh Villages: MAI CHAU ADVENTURE AND TREKKING TOURS TO XA LINH – MAI CHAU HIKING TOURS (B/L/D) 

After breakfast, transfer 30 km by car to the edge of Moc Chau Plateau, a place where the Hmong people live. With a picnic lunch preparation, we’ll trek through villages and interact with the local colorful Hmong people.

In the late afternoon, we’ll transfer back to Mai Chau and enjoy the remainder of day at leisure.

Dinner with Thai traditional dance show and stay overnight in Pom Coong village.

Day 4: Mai Chau Homestay Trekking Tour to Xam Khoe, Xa Linh Villages: MAI CHAU ADVENTURE TOURS – HANOI (B/-/-) 

After breakfast, we have a cycling tour around the valley before transfer back to Hanoi.

Arrive in Hanoi in the afternoon.

TRIP NOTE:

Viet Nam is a developing country whose infrastructure may differ from what you expect in your homeland. Road conditions are poor and accommodation may be basic in mountain region. Good weather for trek from September until June.

We recommend you to bring rain jacket, inner sleeping sheets, walking boots, warm clothes, lamp torch, and toilet papers. Occasionally, this itinerary may be amended for reasons beyond our control such as weather and roads conditions.
