The river passes through Sam Muean Muang Feuang District (District of 30,000 rice stalk cottages) and the sacred Pha Taw Naw Kham (Golden Bamboo Shoot Mountain). According to a local legend, if one were to climb this mountain she/he would die of an unknown spell. Even today, not one brave soul has yet challenged the legend. Sam Muean Muang Feaung, got its name from Sam Muean, which means 30,000, Muang meaning district, and Feaung meaning straw. The first settlers used straw to make their homes. Hence, there were about 30,000 straw cottages in Muang Feaung, hence the name Sam Muean Muang Feaung…
Itinerary :
Day 1: Laos Camping and Kayaking Tours on Nam Lik River: Vang Vieng – Kayaking Tours on Nam Lik River – Camping on the bank of river – Overnight in the Camp Site
We depart from our Office in Vang Vieng and start with a 1-hour drive north of Vang Vieng on Route 13, passing by limestone karsts. Then drive approximately 30 minutes west on a rough dirt road to our starting point at Nam Lik River. After orientation and safety instructions, we learn basic paddling techniques before starting through grade 2–3 rapids (up to class 5 in high water) on the Nam Lik River for 3 km. These will be the biggest rapids of the trip. After this session, we will camp on a stone beach in the Nam Lik Forest for a relaxing evening along the riverbank.
Approximately: 1 ½ hours transfer/ 15 minutes instruction/ 4 hours kayaking or rafting.
Day 2: Laos Camping and Kayaking Tours on Nam Lik River: Camp Site – Kayaking Tours from Ban Muean Muang Feaung to Hin Heup – Vang Vieng / or Vientiane – Boat trips
We rise early for the sunrise. After breakfast, we repack and prepare for another half day of kayaking/rafting. At around 9 am, we will leave with our kayaks for our next destination, Ban Nong Phet Na Seng. We will pass through 20 small to medium sized rapids. After all the excitement and having had lunch, we take a long tail boat ride for 1 hour that takes us to Ban Muean Muang Feaung. From here, we have a pick-up for 1-hour drive to Hin Heup and on to Vang Vieng. For those who want to continue on to Vientiane, you can catch the public bus at Hin Huep. Buses leave every 30 minutes. Please check bus schedules ahead of time.
Rafting Approximately: 2 1/2 hours transfer (to Vang Vieng/ 3 hours kayaking or rafting / 1 hours long tail boat.

What to bring:
Only bring essentials: Hat, sunscreen, clothes/shoes to get wet, mosquito repellent, warm change of clothes for the evening, sarong for changing and bathing, sports sunglasses (with a strap).
