Overview
The “Essential Vietnam Northern Package tour” brings you a unique chance to visit Hoa Lu, the former capital of Vietnam, take a sampan boat along the tranquil river in the picturesque Tam Coc, also known as “Halong Bay on land” to admire the beautiful karst formations and trek along the scenic paths into the remote villages of the ethnic people in Mai Chau for their culture discovery. Meet the local at their work, at their house, talk with them and eat with them to know more about how the locals live in this beautiful part of the world.

DAY 1: Hanoi Adventure Package Tour to Ninh Binh and Mai Chau: HANOI SIGHTSEEING TOUR TO TAM COC IN NINH BINH PROVINCE (-/L/D)
Our guide and driver pick you up at 08: 00am to depart for Ninh Binh province. On arrival in Hoa Lu, the old citadel, we’ll visit mausoleums dedicating to King Dinh and King Le who ruled the country before 1010 AD. Then, we’ll walk up the hilltop where their tombs are preserved to admire the panorama view of the entire old kingdom. Have lunch at a local restaurant before rowing a boat along the tiny canal among the rice fields to visit Tam Coc (Three Grottoes).
Dinner at a local restaurant and stay overnight at hotel in Ninh Binh Town.
DAY 2: Hanoi Adventure Package Tour to Ninh Binh and Mai Chau: NINH BINH ADVENTURE TOUR TO MAI CHAU- MAI CHAU TREKKING TOUR TO HANG KIA VILLAGE (B/L/D)
After breakfast at hotel, we’ll travel west to Hoa Binh Province where we stop for refreshments. From our stop we climb up by car for around 2 more hours towards the Mai Chau valley. The drive is really scenic with beautiful mountains, green tea plantations and rice paddy fields. Stop right at the edge of Mai Chau valley for the best panorama photos of the entire valley down there.
Following lunch in Mai Chau town we drive to the White Thai village of Xa Linh. From there we’ll commence a 3-hour trek up-hill to the village of Hang Kia, a pretty village where the H’mong minority people live.
We’ll reach the village in the late afternoon while enjoying the sunset along the way. Dinner and stay overnight in a house hosted by an H’mong family.
DAY 3: Hanoi Adventure Package Tour to Ninh Binh and Mai Chau: MAI CHAU- HANG KIA TREKKING TOUR- HOMESTAY IN VAN VILLAGE (B/L/D)
This morning we have a 7-hour trek to Van Village, home of the White Thai people. The trek will take you through spectacular scenery and provide you with an opportunity to closely observe rural life in Vietnam. A picnic lunch will be provided along the way.
Arriving in Van village by mid to late afternoon, there will be time to take a stroll down to the nearby stream. Our hosts for this evening will treat us with a fine meal and tell stories of life in Van village. They will also share their home brewed rice wine and toast our good health and happiness.

DAY 4: Hanoi Adventure Package Tour to Ninh Binh and Mai Chau: VAN VILLAGE TREKKING TOUR TO SO VILLAGE (B/L/D)
After breakfast, we spend the morning strolling around the surrounding villages and meeting villagers along the way. Return to Van village for lunch at a local home. After lunch, start a 3 hour walk to the village of Xo (pronounced as Soh). This evening following dinner, we will have the opportunity for more cultural interaction, before retiring for our second night in a stilt house.
DAY 5 – Hanoi Adventure Package Tour to Ninh Binh and Mai Chau: MAI CHAU- HANOI (B/L/-)
Departing the village at around 08: 00. We retrace our steps back to the boat for a cruise to meet with our waiting vehicle and the trip back to Hanoi. We will arrive back in Hanoi by approximately 13: 00. Rest of the day is free. Overnight in Hanoi.
