The Nam Ha National Protected Area takes its name from this river. The Nam Ha Experience can be one of rapids and white water in the rainy season but for most of the year the verdant forested banks, colorful water birds and the occasional troop of monkeys are the main attractions. You will be paddling exciting but manageable 2 to 3 grade rapids. Low water levels from January to June may make kayaking rocky.
Itinerary :
Day 1: Laos rafting tour: Luang Namtha Kayaking Vacation – Ban Nam Goy or Ban Nalan Tai
The day of paddling takes us through the thick, in parts old-growth forest of the Nam Ha NPA. A picnic lunch and a refreshing swim mark mid-day. We arrive in the village in the afternoon and take some time to look around the village. In order to distribute the benefit evenly between villagers, trips alternate overnight stays between the lodges of Ban Nam Goy (Lanten) and Ban Nalan Tai (Khmu). That evening enjoys a typical village dinner cooked over an open fire.
Approximately: 1-hour transfer / 5 hours kayaking.
Day 2: Laos rafting tour: Ban Nam Goy (Ban Nalan Tai) – Ban Sop Sim – Luang Namtha
After a leisurely breakfast down the river. The section of the river will reveal the best forest views and the most exciting rapids of the trip. Arriving at the confluence of the Nam Tha and Nam Ha rivers paddle down the Nam Tha for a way before arriving at the Khmu village of Ban Sop Sim where your transport back to Luang Namtha will be waiting for you. The optional return by the river is in a traditional motorboat operated by local villagers. On your way up the river, you will see water birds along the banks of the river and make your last pass along the border of the Nam Ha Protected Area. If you’ve chosen to return by the pick-up truck, the road may be a bit bumpy and dusty.
Approximately: 5 hours kayaking / 1-hour transfer.
