The Nam Tha River is the transport artery of Northern Laos. Heading south from Luang Namtha, the river cuts through parts of the Nam Ha National Protected Area, revealing some rare stands of old growth forest and passing villages of different ethnic groups. This two-day kayaking or rafting trip offers a unique sportive experience, exciting views of the diverse landscape in Northern Laos and insights into the rich flora and fauna of the region.
Itinerary :
Day 1: Luang Namtha Kayaking Tours to Ban Sope Dute – Ban Hat Yawng
The trip starts on the banks of the Nam Tha, where you receive kayaking instructions and first practice. After a visit at the Lanten village of Ban Sope Dute, the Nam Tha accelerates at the “Tiger Leaping Rapid”. After a day on the river and in the forest, the night is spent in the Khmu village of Ban Hat Yawng.
Approximately: 20 minutes transfer/ 5 hours kayaking or rafting.
Day 2: Ban Hat Yawng Kayaking Tours back to Luang Namtha
The second day starts off with a Khmu style breakfast mainly consisting of what is in season at this time of year. The day is spent kayaking through mountainous scenery along the range that forms the eastern boundary of the Nam Ha National Protected Area. In the afternoon a pick-up is waiting for the group for transport back to Luang Namtha. Another option is to return to Luang Namtha on the river in a traditional motorboat operated by local villagers.
Approximately: 1-hour transfer/ 6 hours kayaking or rafting.

Note:
• Return by boat may not be possible from March-June and a return by pick-up may not be possible from July–September.
• The Nam Tha is best for rafting from July to November, for kayaking all year round.
What to bring:
Hat, sunscreen, clothes/shoes to get wet, warm change of clothes for the evening, mosquito repellent, sarong for bathing.
