At Karen Ruammit village just outside of Chiang Rai Town is an elephant camp cared by the Karen hill tribesmen. Elephants can be hired for a safari trip into the jungle and hill areas. However, this operation is not as sophisticated as what the elephant camps in Chiang Mai could do. But it is much less touristy and the terrain to experience is not Chiang Mai.
