About 36km north of Chiang Rai is the privately owned Laan Tong Cultural Park – a recreational park of the provincial kind. Its main attraction is the show of cultural dances from the six Mekong Region countries – Northern Thailand, Yunnan, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam – and depicting their lifestyles. Nestled in a lovely valley, surrounded by trees and flowers, the Laan Thong Mekong Basin Cultural Park offers visitors not only beautiful nature but also impressive cultural shows. Visitors can enjoy the cultural performances of 6 nations: Thai, Laos, China, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Cambodia; and an elephant show. There are also demonstrations of handicraft making such as basketry weaving, saa paper making, cotton spinning, silk weaving, and demonstration of Yunnan – style tea preparation.

In the compound is located a flower garden, tea plantation, shady forest, and lovely waterfall, making the attraction even more attractive. To see more of the park, tourists can opt for elephant or ox-cart riding to tour around the village. With numerous activities to enjoy, visitors will not only learn more about exotic cultures but also having a good time travelling around the cultural village. And for the gong-beaters, there is the largest gong in the world for their pleasure.

This park is located on Km 12 on Highway 1089 (Mae Chan – Tha Ton). Open Daily 8.00am-6.00pm. Shows at: 11.00am and 2.00pm.
