The picturesque beaches of northeast Nakhon Si Thammarat province are just itching to be discovered. Stretches of undeveloped beach stretch as far as the eye can see. Every beach boasts its own unique characteristics. In addition to white sand and palm trees, there are limestone cliffs and mangrove forests. Many of the beaches remain unspoiled, providing complete privacy. For an unforgettable and unbeatable experience, take advantage of camping on the beaches — just don’t forget to bring a tent and always get permission before camping. The coastal town of Khanom, 80km north of Nakhon Si Thammarat, is a good place to set up shop. The town is small, but basic services and amenities are available. The fresh seafood is cheap and delicious. All the following beaches run south from Khanom.

Na Dam Beach
Na Dam Beach is the first quality beach that is open to tourists. Surrounded by coconut plantations, this beach is popular thanks to its beautiful aquamarine water and white sand. This is not the best place to camp because it can get quite busy especially during the weekend.

Nai Phalo Beach
Nai Phalo Beach is a phenomenally beautiful beach located at the southernmost point of Khanom Bay. Boulders separate it from Nai Pret Beach. There are some decent places to camp, but unfortunately this beach is starting to become more developed.

Thung Yi Beach and Thong Yang Beach
Thung Yi Beach and Thong Yang Beach are the best beaches that Khanom has to offer. Thung Yi Beach is only 3km south of Nai Phlao beach. Thong Yang Beach is right next door, but from Khanom, it can only be reached by boat or by hiking over Khao Klang Mountain. It’s easier to access Thong Yang Beach coming from Sichon to the south. Both of these beaches are ideal for camping because they are completely isolated. Snorkel right off of the beach or try to catch your dinner. There is an abundance of coral, fish and native wildlife in the area. Waterfalls flow into the sea and the swimming is excellent. There are some small stores within walking distance of both beaches that sell food and water.

Sichon Beach and Hin Ngam Beach
The small coastal town of Sichon is located about 65km north of Nakhon Si Thammarat. It’s a quaint fishing village offering mom and pop shops as well as fresh seafood. Sichon Beach and Hin Ngam Beach are located next to each other. Sichon Beach is north of town while Hin Ngam Beach and Piti Beach are to the south. The beaches are nice, but nothing special when compared to the beaches closer to Khanom. There are no vendors allowed on Sichon Beach. All three beaches have restaurants and places to stay, but there are almost no tourists to be found. More Thais visit these beaches than foreigners.
