Interacting with the students is sure to bring a smile to your face. Travel to Nyaung U village to learn about the traditional crafts such as lacquerware, bullock carts, and jam making.


Itinerary :

Bagan, located on the banks of the Ayeyarwady (Irrawaddy) River, is home to the largest and densest concentration of Buddhist temples, pagodas, stupas and ruins in the world with many dating from the 11th and 12th centuries. The shape and construction of each building is highly significant in Buddhism with each component part taking on spiritual meaning. Bagan became a central powerbase in the mid 9th century under King Anawratha, who unified Burma under Theravada Buddhism. It is estimated that as many as 13,000 temples and stupas once stood on this 42 sq km plain in central Myanmar

After breakfast, transfer to Ngat Pyit Taung Monastery and explore the temple’s caves to observe about local tradition and spiritual beliefs of the Burmese. Then, visit the Monastic Primary School where you can visit with the local children who are studying their lessons.  Be greeted by their warm smiles and enjoy playing with and meeting the students.  Although friendly and welcoming, the children come from a very underprivileged area and a small donation of cash or school supplies will ensure a brighter future for these students. Lunch at local restaurant.

This afternoon, explore the town of Nyaung U and neighboring villages where you will learn about their traditional livelihood. Learn the interesting process of creating “Poneyay” (pea powder paste) and see how local plum jam is made and packed. In addition, visit workshops of two of the region’s best known products: handmade lacquer ware and wooden handicrafts.

In addition, you will visit the villages and observe about how Cartwrights make a traditional bullock carts, still used by farmers and locals throughout the country. A great afternoon for hands-on activities, as the craftsmen loves to share their techniques with visitors.
